Head to toe assessment

Updated: Oct 26, 2021

This assessment is basic but extremely essential!!

Head to toe assessment

In the head-to-toe assessment, we watched a video and listened to a guest speaker on how to properly assess patients. It consisted of many odd factors you wouldn't think you would have to take into consideration. The assessment was to ensure the complete safety and consideration for the patient. The assessment consulted breathing, reflexes, pulse, and many other very important factors in the medical field. It is an essential and necessary but commonly used practice. The video explained the importance and how you should approach it. Some steps include the following areas: 1. vital signs and neurological indicators (height, weight, heart rate etc.)

2. head and face investigations (making sure face features are in place and symmetrical)

3. eyes (symmetry and vision)

4. ears, nose, mouth/throat

5. lungs and respiration

6. limbs

Tech

We were able to learn how to use many manual instruments to assess people, and what factors we might have to consider with said patients. It was extremely fun, despite being such a basic assignment.
