Mrs. JB, member of Drug Education council
Mrs. JB spreads awareness and knowledge concerning drugs throughout the youth and education systems.
Affect on Brain
A brain can be deemed fully developed at 25 years old. Alcohol and other drugs can alter the growth and development of the brain. When the brain is compromised by certain substances, it can interfere with development and cognitive activity.
Underage Drinking
Alcohol, as well as other drugs, impair quality of sleep
Information adopted throughout the day implements itself into your memory during sleep
the absence of sleep prevents the process of thoughts and cognit response
The symptoms of drinking can be identified if patterns of poor concentration, headaches, slurred, speech, drop in grades
when alcohol is mixed with prescription medication, it can have a monumental consequence
Drinking and driving has proved to be a number one cause of teenage death
Statistics have portrayed a certain pattern of the early age exposed to drugs/alcohol, the higher percentage of addiction in later years
Marijuana
Interferes with attentiveness, learning, motivation, which will be reflected by grades and IQ
consumers are often victim to over-intoxication which can be identified by unease, shaking, anxiety, hallucinations, psychotic reaction etc
Edibles have high potential for overdose
Marijuana has been seen to increase the risk of developing mental health issues like depression and anxiety
E-cigarettes
Initially advertised as a cigarette alternative, the e cigarettes popularity grew in its release year 2003. However, their absent regulation gives leeway to mass corporations to take advantage of dirty advertising, especially targeted at youth. The vape companies gained such large revenue and audiences through their advertising resembling a youthful/younger product.
Nicotine can:
compromise immune system
regress ability to learn
cause extreme addiction
skin irritation
Prescription drugs
Its extremely important for medicated individuals to remain consistent with the correct dosage administered by the doctor. Opioids, Stimulants, and depressants are all prescription medications that can be easily abused. Misuse can induce addiction and possibly overdose.
Overall:
We were briefed on the roles of responsibility and accountability that come to awareness and use of drugs. Something that seems so minimal in ones daily routine can actually have a monumental affect on your life if abused. Drug education, especially across youth, takes a tremendous affect on the rates of early deaths and future addiction.
