Stern- back end of boat

Gunwales - sides of ships
Do not step, stand, or sit on the gunwales
Mid ships are vertical to the stern
Beam- across the middle of the boat
From water line to the top of the gunwales is called free-water
Waterline to bottom of the boat is the draft
Typically have a lot of shallow water
You have green(sternum) and red(port) lights on the front of the boat
