Childhood obesity

Environmental factors can have a major affect on a persons weight. When there is lack of resources available to a person, it can be detrimental to health factors in ones life.



There are many supporting factors as well

  • family- when parents provide their children with unhealthy food, it influences them

  • habits- when you have poor eating habits, it can contribute to obesity

  • genetics- some peoples lineage can influence weight in descendants

Environmental factors

  • Unpopular areas might not have a local grocery store, which could cause people to find food from a bad source

  • parks- Some areas do not have parks or places for children to endure in physical activity

  • restaurants- there is not quite the nutritional value in eating out.

  • stress- stress from school and work can event in poor diet.

  • Safety- a violent area could refrain parents from letting their kids play outside

Certain brands use cartoons and bright colors to catch kids attention

Culture

  • usually minority groups are in the lower economic status

  • diet tends to not be a priority to some people in these conditions

  • many cultures have different meals that have different impacts

Education

  • better education will be able to teach better nutrition rather than worse schools

  • school systems money situations can affect meal plans as well

Genetics

  • leptin is a hormone that affects fat and tissues

  • testosterone, estrogen, and other hormones can alter BMI when they are obese.

Medication

  • antipsychotics

  • steroids

  • antidepressants

  • these are all medications that can affect weight and alter weight.

  • some medications can make you hungrier, slow your metabolism, or hold on to more fluids. These are all affects of some medications.

Sleep

  • children who miss the recommended amount of sleep will be 50% more likely to suffer from weight gain or obesity.

  • Making sure that children sleep properly is essential to a healthy body

  • having a consistent sleep schedule is important

  • the more time awake, the more time they eat and can also contribute to weight gain
